Turn frustration into fascination by leading with Turn frustration into fascination by leading with curiosity, rather than judgment. 🧐

(Thanks @klumconsulting for that reframe – as she calls it, "the alternate F-word"!)

Our emotions are a gift. When we can accept and honor all emotions as valid and important messengers; when we listen, pay attention, and get curious about what they want to tell us, we recognize that emotion is information – valuable data points that can guide our choices and decisions about how we act and interact with the world around us.

The goal is to regulate, not control our emotions. When we recognize there is a space between stimulus and response, we notice that in the pause, we have a choice.

“Practicing the pause” allows us to regulate and respond with intentionality.

Notice. Choose. Act.

TO MY SISTERS ❤️ Sisters, by blood and birth TO MY SISTERS

❤️ Sisters, by blood and birth and biology.
🧡 Friends, by luck and by choice.
💛 Inspiration, by sheer presence.
💚 Teachers, by example.

You are five of the strongest, wisest, bravest, most loving, resilient, courageous, dedicated, caring, accomplished and drop-dead gorgeous women I know. I am lucky to learn from you daily, to be inspired by who you are and how you show up for those of us who get to be in your orbits. To have you in my corner means the world to me.

Ruth, Solfrid, Therese, Livirén, Anita,
I love you.

(P.S. I made sure to find the best possible photos of all of us. You’re welcome.)

As we observe International Women's Day and Women's History Month, I want to highlight and celebrate the women who have inspired me to become who I am today.

It starts with these five 💚
It was a beautiful day in my happy place on the Or It was a beautiful day in my happy place on the Oregon Coast.

It was April, the sun was warming my skin and the massive, moss-covered trees and lush greens and yellows of the Oregon spring were a welcome break from my still-snowy, wintry Montana.

After work that day, I put on my #MagicInTheRoom hat and headed out on a run from Heceta Head Lighthouse along the Hobbit Trail to Hobbit Beach, one of my favorite spots on the coast.

🌟

Today, almost a year later, I’m headed back to that happy place for my monthly visit to facilitate leadership development for our wonderful client there. Five workshops in two different locations over two days. It is physically tiring, mentally taxing and emotionally draining – and also incredibly rewarding work.

Being able to make a positive impact in the lives of close to 100 people over these two days makes it worth it every time. To see team members from the front lines learn along with all levels of leadership and lean into what it means to be an Intentional Leader is inspiring.

🌟

Intentional leadership starts with leading ourselves.

🌟

Today is also the kick-off of Season 4 of the Magic In The Room leadership podcast with my two good friends and colleagues, Luke Freeman and Chris Province. We are now in our fourth year and getting close to that “Magic” milestone of 150 meaningful conversations!

The first episode of our new season dropped today. This entire season is dedicated to exploring various facets of Intentional Leadership – what it is, what it does, and why it matters.

If you’re curious about what these leaders in Oregon are learning each month, you can learn with them by listening to our conversations on the podcast.

We’ve also created some unique resources this season. You can follow along and increase your leadership awareness with downloadable companion reflection guides for each topic.

And unlike our client, you don’t even have to pay for it! 😃

I hope you’ll join our conversations. I appreciate you. Thank you for being here, and for listening. I’d love to hear what you think.

💚 Hannah

What is next for you? My colleague Luke Freeman a What is next for you?

My colleague Luke Freeman at @purposeandperformancegroup (check out his daily TikTok videos, they're great!) describes his personal purpose as "inviting leaders and teams into what's next for them." I've heard him say this many times, and it got me thinking, what's next for me? And how do people in my world define what's next for them?

We can define "what's next" in a variety of ways.

First, we can define it narrowly, as in literally, what's next after this moment. It is Sunday morning here in Big Sky, and it's snowing outside. That's a definite "go skiing!" kind of next.

We can also define it in terms of what's next in our development. Today, I plan to ski, but what kind of terrain will I venture out on? I've never stood on top of Lone Peak before. I've never hiked or ridden the tram up to the 11,167′ summit, and I've certainly never skied off it. The next challenge I want to take on as a skier is to ski Liberty Bowl, the only single black diamond run (everything else is double or triple black diamond) off the peak. Will it be today? I'm not sure yet. I'll weigh the conditions and how I feel when I get there. But it's definitely a "next" in my development as a skier.

Finally, we can define it more broadly, and long-term. I want to be the kind of person who writes books. Inspired by the amazing, warm, and brilliant humans at the #NLV2023 conference hosted by @sarahlynnelkins in Chicago last week, the next step in my writing journey is to set aside some time at least one morning per week, to write. So, here I am, writing a few words before heading out on the slopes.

Hello there, it's been a while.

Your turn: what's next?
I've been thinking a lot about what makes someone I've been thinking a lot about what makes someone interesting to us. We all like to think we are interesting in some way and we probably are – but what is it about us that makes us interesting to others?

When it comes right down to it, if you want to be interesting, you have to be interested.

1️⃣ Ask questions. When you are genuinely interested in others, they perceive you as more interesting. It also helps your sales effectiveness!

2️⃣ Be curious. Look for what you can learn, and develop new skills in different areas.

3️⃣ Tell stories. Have interesting stories prepped and ready, and learn how to captivate an audience.
